Flood Relief Overview

In response to the devastating July 4, 2025 flash flood in Texas Hill Country—where the Guadalupe River surged over 30 feet within minutes, resulting in the loss of 80–135 lives and widespread destruction—Heritage Youth Missions has mobilized crews to contribute to the cleanup and recovery. This unprecedented disaster has left homes, camps, and entire communities in need of support. Our efforts are ongoing, and we are committed to standing with those affected as the story continues to unfold. Check back for updates on our continuing involvement and how you can help.

1. Pre‑Dawn Mobilization

At 2:45 A.M. on Saturday, 68 youth and leaders departed Waco with chainsaws, skid steers, mini‑excavators, and trailers—ready for the long day ahead.

2. Context of the Disaster

On July 4, torrential rains—up to 10 inches in hours—caused the Guadalupe River to rise more than 30 feet. The flood killed dozens and overwhelmed camps and communities en.wikipedia.org+6The Washington Post+6people.com+6The Washington Post+5climameter.org+5nriglobe.com+5.

3. Mission at Heart O’ the Hills

Our team gutted the lodge and grounds of Heart O’ the Hills camp, where floodwaters reached nearly to the second floor—even 25 feet above the river bank.

4. Equipment in Action

Fully equipped with 33 chainsaws, 5 skid steers, and dump trailers, our team cleared debris and restored the camp to safe, usable condition.

5. Youth Leading in Crisis

68 youth and leaders exemplified leadership, compassion, and hard work as they cleaned, carried, and cared at the heart of the disaster zone.

6. Serving Beyond Cleanup

Our efforts also included grounds cleanup, tool distribution, and emotional support—laying the groundwork for future rebuilding.

7. Continuing the Work

This cleanup marks the beginning—not the end. We’re committed to ongoing recovery efforts in Hunt and across impacted Hill Country communities. Check back for project updates and prayer requests.
